Frequently Asked Questions about Pediatric Chiropractic Care
By Jesse Lillejord
The nervous system is one of the most important systems in the body and an infant should be evaluated by a pediatric chiropractor after birth to identify any restrictions and body tension. Children should also be evaluated when they meet any developmental milestones.
When we adjust a child, we are directly impacting the central nervous system.
The vagus nerve in particular [ located at the base of the skull ] influences many systems of the body including the digestive system. As a result when we adjust the upper cervical spine we see impacts downstream in the body!
Yes! Children's bones are softer and their joints are underdeveloped. When we adjust infants we use a very gentle pressure, similar to the pressure you would use to check the ripeness of an avocado or tomato at a grocery store!
The activator is a tool we can use to adjust kiddos! It delivers an impulse at the speed of 1/1000 of a second. This allows us to adjust using high speed and very low force!
We are often adjusting busy KIDZ as they play - this tool allows us to do that! It is gentle + specific and we have a toy one for them to play with!
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle technique used to release soft tissue tightness + tension in the fascia surrounding the brain + spinal cord.
The cranial bones overlap during the birth process to pass through the birth canal [ this happens regardless of delivery outcomes ]. CST helps guide these bones in the proper direction after birth.
