What to Expect During Your First Lactation Visit 🍼🤍

Your first lactation visit is all about support, comfort, and connection — for both you and your baby.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Baby’s bodywork: Your little one will receive gentle bodywork to help ease any tightness or tension that may be impacting feeding. This helps promote better latch, comfort, and digestion.

  • Weighted feed: We’ll do a weighted feed to measure how much milk your baby transfers during a nursing session. This gives us insight into feeding efficiency and helps guide next steps.

  • Personalized breastfeeding goals: We’ll discuss your goals — whether that’s exclusive breastfeeding, combo feeding, or just figuring out what’s best for your family.

  • Pump + flange sizing: If you’re pumping, we’ll measure for proper flange fit to make sure you’re comfortable and getting the most from your sessions.

Our goal is to make sure you leave feeling confident, supported, and equipped with a clear plan for your breastfeeding journey.

Dr. Jess is an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) who provides comprehensive support for breastfeeding and pumping families. She offers weighted feeds, evaluates latch and feeding mechanics, and helps troubleshoot common breastfeeding challenges. Care may include positioning adjustments for mom, as well as gentle bodywork for baby to improve comfort, mobility, and feeding function.

The breastfeeding journey shifts often -especially in the first few months.
Around two weeks, your baby’s feeding patterns may suddenly increase as milk supply is adapting to your baby's needs. You may notice more fussiness while latching.

By one month, You may notice latch changes as well as increase in cluster feeding.

Around three months, distractions and growth spurts can bring new challenges. These transitions are normal and lactation support can help you move through each stage with confidence and comfort.
